Welcome to the wonderful world of Ridgefield Open Spaces.
Ridgefield is privileged to have a variety of beautiful open spaces just waiting to be explored. From easy flat walks to strenuous uphill climbs, there is something for every level of fitness and hiking ability.

Please follow the open space rules and guidelines when using our open spaces. Guidelines are presented here.

Be aware of wildlife, you may come across coyotes or bears. Guidelines for Coyotes. Guidelines for Bears. Information for Bobcats. Report wildlife concerns to the State, the police, or the animal control officer of the town.

Camping permits are available for certain open spaces. For information and to apply for a camping permit contact Parks and Recreation.

The Conservation Commission has had the support of the cub and scout troop in Ridgefield who complete valuable projects in our open spaces. See the latest scout projects here
To assist you in exploring Ridgefield's open spaces, the Ridgefield Conservation Commission has compiled the Ridgefield Walk Book © 2016. This book provides a complete description of each open space area along with a color map of the trails. It is available for purchase at the Ridgefield Conservation Commission office, at Town Hall, and other locations in town (e.g. Books on the Common, Squashs, Ridgefield Running Club).
Now go ahead, find an open space to enjoy and explore. We blaze all our trails per Appalachian Trail Guidelines.
The town open space map was updated in November 2020 and a 22X30 inch print. It is available for purchase at the Conservation Commission office.

The Open Space Catalog lists hiking areas under town, state, or other management. You will find here a description of the open space with trails along with appropriate maps that you can download and print.
